České Švýcarsko National Park As the school years settles in, and the season changes start showing up in our respective areas. A future question to consider about our respective IT Systems and Digital Ecosystems in schools. Should we be conforming to students needs or expecting them to confirm to ours? This raises a host of issues and challenges for schools grappling with the fast pace of change, the seamless integration of powerful digital tools in our respective lives. As schools start looking to” bring your own device/tablet programs”, and devices are cheaper, more powerful and personalized how as schools do we balance the stability and continuity of a walled garden approach to supporting and creating IT Systems in our schools or opening up to a non walled garden approach and shifting the control and responsibility to the users choice and tastes.
There are more questions than answers. This creative tension is something we all will be juggling as we have to continually manage an accelerated change process. We are moving to a world were everyone is connected with a personalized device 24/7 and often will prefer having that complete personalized experience over a controlled environment dictated by a school. Finding a balance and prioritizing the realities of managing digital ecosystems as schools are important things to consider. To support this conversation a few resources and articles.
