2010……beyond the iPad

Greetings to all and hope the year has started well for you and your schools! To kick of our first issue of the year, I thought with all the hype around the iPad to share this remarkable presentation on TedTalk from  Pranav Mistry  who demos several tools that help the physical world interact with the world of data — including a deep look at his SixthSense device and a new, paradigm-shifting paper “laptop. I found this quite amazing, and a good conversation starter as we ourselves frame our own work in the context of the next technologies available to us as International Schools. Enjoy

We have a few submissions from our members so take a look at these, some great professional development opportunities and resources

‘Create the Future’ with Julie Lindsay and Kim Cofino

Are you looking for something new and dynamic for a professional development experience? Are you looking to embed global collaboration, digital citizenship and Web 2.0 into your school curriculum?

After another successful 2-day workshop, this time at Beijing (BISS) International School (see wiki at http://createthefuture.biss.wikispaces.net/) Julie and Kim invite you to consider holding a ‘Create the Future’ workshop at your school.
Here is a brief description:

“Embrace Web 2.0, 1:1 and online learning in conjunction with multimedia for your classroom through this project-based workshop. A hands-on approach is emphasized with opportunities for learners at all levels to explore, discuss and model 21st Century pedagogy using digital tools. Break out sessions will include personal learning network and digital portfolio development, digital citizenship best practice, and Web 2.0 toolbox. Participants will also work in teams on ‘flat classroom’ objectives including Web 2.0 skill building, global collaboration and project management.
This workshop is designed to open doors to new modes of teaching and learning and focus on the learner (teacher and student) as a communicator, collaborator and creator.”
